Daisy Troop 11589 - First Meeting

Tonight, Katie went to her first Daisy Girl Scout meeting. I have filled out all the proper paperwork to be a "parent helper" for her troop, so I am excited to be able to join her in her meetings and see her participate in this "journey".

What are Journeys?
From the Girl Scout website -

"Journeys are the new GSUSA Girl Scout program curriculum that focuses our work with girls more intentionally on Leadership Development. Journeys do this by giving us guidelines for engaging girls in an 8-to-10 session “Journey” that puts the Girl Scout Leadership Experience into action. That means, by doing Journeys, girls Discover their values, Connect with others, and Take Action to make the world a better place. They also have fun along the way!"

Katie's troop is working through the Daisy Journey, "3 Cheers for Animals!"

The start of every meeting opens with the Girls Scout Promise & Law.

The Girl Scout Promise and Law are shared by every member of Girl Scouting. The Girl Scout Promise is the way Girl Scouts agree to act every day toward one another and other people, and the Girl Scout Law outlines a way to act towards one another and the world.

This week, the girl's learned about birds and they each got make their own bird craft!



Of course, I am toying with the idea of being her leader next year, but I want to see what is involved before I commit. It is a 10-week commitment and it is every week for the leaders, so it really is quite the commitment. I wasn't ready to jump into that without knowing how much work would be involved first. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

By the end of the first meeting, I was the designated "troop photographer", which I am perfectly happy about :-) I have to have a CORI check done in order to stay in the room with the girls, but that is a small price to pay to be involved with this wonderful organization with Katie!!!
