Kaitlyn's first clinic visit

Kaitlyn had her first outpatient clinic visit today. The news we received today is very encouraging. All of her blood work looks great and is starting to return to "normal". When I asked the doctor what it meant to see that so soon, he replied, "It is great, it means that she is going into remission". Although that is the goal of the Induction phase of treatment and it is GREAT news, I reserve my excitement and celebration for the day we are completely done with treatment. We were also told that they are considering her of "standard risk" and no longer a "high risk" case, which is also great news. She received a dose of Vincristine today which is a form of chemo and she will continue to receive that once a week for at least the next 3 weeks. The steroids she is taking have kicked in and she is SO MOODY and she has all kinds of crazy food cravings! She is like a little pregnant woman. One minute she's perfectly happy, the next she is screaming and crying. One minute, she wants pizza and by the time the pizza is ready, she wants something else...sigh.... This morning, she had chicken nuggets for breakfast...lol. Right now, the biggest challenge for Mike and I is to remain patient and calm. It's not easy because her emotions are all over the place and it is hard to get her what she needs when the need keeps changing. She will remain on steriods until the beginning of October, God help us.
