Today, Kaitlyn is acting like a completely different kid.
She had fever for most of the night last night, but the last time she had any Tylenol/fever was 1:30am. Since then, she has been fever free. She woke up at 8am and has been in great spirits, playing all day.
Dr. Usmani, the HemOnc doc on today, came in to examine Kaitlyn and we asked about the follow-up chest X-ray. She told us that since she looked so good and was acting "normal", she didn't see any need to expose her to another X-ray.
The infectious disease team also came in to examine Kaitlyn and heard "crackling" in her lungs, which they attributed to the pneumonia. However, the spots on her lungs were so slight that there seems to be some debate between infectious disease and the HemOnc team over whether or not it is actually pneumonia or not. But, they did agree that since she looked so good and was responding so well to treatment, they didn't see any need for another X-ray.
Now, it is just a wait and see game on a few points.
1) We wait and see if she spikes another fever tonight. If so, then they will probably postpone her lumbar puncture that is scheduled for tomorrow.
2) If she does not spike another fever tonight, then the sedation team will come in tomorrow morning to examine her and see if her lungs are clear enough for moderate sedation for the lumbar puncture. If not, then they will probably postpone her lumbar puncture.
This lumbar puncture is part of her regularly scheduled "program". She is scheduled to start round 6 of Maintenance and if all goes as planned, that is to include a lumbar puncture.

Thanks for the update. That's great that she didn't have to have a 2nd x-ray and that the fever is gone. I hope you are all home soon and don't have to spend too many days at the hospital.
