Today has been another frustrating day in the hospital.
Yesterday, we asked multiple times if Kaitlyn would need a follow-up chest x-ray before having anesthesia today for her lumbar puncture. But, yesterday's answer was, "No, she is doing so much better that we don't need confirmation with a chest x-ray". We even asked about it a few more times this morning because we knew that the sedation team was coming in at some point this morning to evaluate Kaitlyn to see if she would be fit for anesthesia. We were trying to be proactive, but of course, no one felt the need to send her for a chest x-ray. But, at the last minute, they told us that she was going down for a chest x-ray, "rather safe than sorry" was the quote.
The reason why we are so frustrated with this is because the poor kid cannot eat until after her lumbar puncture is done. SO, every minute we are waiting for something to be done or results to be delivered, is another minute that Katie can't eat.
Dr. Keuker just stopped in to let us know that the chest x-ray's look clear and they are going to proceed with the lumbar puncture. She is scheduled for 1:30pm.
He also informed us that Katie really does not have pneumonia, but in fact "Rhinovirus" or the common cold and that we are probably going to be discharged after Katie's procedure. However, he is leaving the decision up to the infectious disease team. Good grief...
