Much like our trip to Pennsylvania, we used the "Give Kids the World Passport" to obtain free entry to Storyland and Santa's Village in New Hampshire.
August 21, 2011 - Travel Day
On our ride to the campground, we took the Kancamangus Hwy and stopped for lunch at Lower Falls. We did a little swimming but stayed mostly in the calm water after Katie tried to "slide" down the rocks and nearly drowned.
After lunch and some swimming, some scary dark clouds were moving in so we decided to make out way to the campground and set up our tent. We got the tent set up just in time for it to start pouring. So, we went out to dinner and hoped for the best.
Back at the camp site after dinner and the tent was soaked. We thought it was going to let up so we blew up the air mattresses and put the blankets in the tent. Then it just started to get worse...it even started to thunder and lightening. When I heard that, I made the call to give up on the tent and sleep in the car. It wasn't the most comfortable, but it was safer and dryer than sleeping in the tent. Day 1 was off to a rough start.
August 22, 2011 - Storyland
We had a quick bagel for breakfast and checked out the water situation in the tent. It was pretty wet, but could have been worse. We sopped up the water and opened up the windows in hopes that it would air dry and we would be able to sleep in there tonight.
After eating and getting the campsite straightened out, we got ready to head out to Storyland for the day. We were all a little tired and grumpy in the morning. But, once we arrived at Storyland, we all got a lot happier :-)
First on Katie's agenda was the talking tree. She has been talking about this non-stop since she found out we were coming back!
After that, we started out going in the opposite direction from last year because we ran short of time at that end of the park last year.
Katie & Mother Goose
The adventures of Molly Molecule show. It was a cute show and Katie got picked as a helper so that made it even cuter...lol.
We had a great time today at Storyland. Katie got to dictate what we did next...Mike and I just followed along. She loved it that way. It's not often that she gets to dictate to us, so it was nice to see the joy on her face today. I really wish we had more quality time together...it makes us all a lot happier.
Back at the campground. The tent was completely dried out - THANK GOD! Dinner was hot dogs on the fire along with garden salad, potato salad, grapes, chips and s'mores for dessert! We spent the night hanging out by the campfire and we slept in the tent. Day 2 had a much better ending than day 1!!!
August 23, 2011 - Down day in Conway, NH
Got up and made a HUGE breakfast at the campsite...bacon, eggs, homefries, pancakes, grilled bagels, coffee and juice!!! YUM! Now THIS is camping!!!!
After breakfast, we took our time cleaning up and had a slow morning around the camp. Once the site was cleaned up, we made our way to the showers and then out for the day. Headed over to the Conway Scenic Railway and bought tickets for the 1:30 train. The train went from North Conway to Conway and the back again. The whole trip took about an hour.
The train went over the Saco and Swift rivers.
Katie fell asleep on the way back to North Conway.
Back from our train ride, we walked the shops in the village. Then we headed back to our campsite for a yummy dinner - BBQ chicken that has been cooking all day on the crockpot, so dinner was pretty easy tonight...Chicken, garden salad' potato salad, zucchini and summer squash...yum! We ate pretty good today if i do say so myself...lol.
After dinner, we brought Katie to the playground at the camp ground.
Back at our site we started a fire and settled in for the night. Day 3 was a success!!!
August 24, 2011 - Santa's Village
This is the first time at Santa's Village for all of us!!!
On the way in, Katie got to stop and say hello to Rudolph!!!
As soon as we got into the park, we saw Santa walking someplace, so we stopped him for a quick meet and greet. Katie was a little shy, but she still said hi and posed for a quick picture with me :-)
My favorite part of the day was the Reindeer Rendevous where you got to meet all of Santa's reindeer!!!
Ended our day at Santa's Village pretty early, so we decided to go to the outlet shops in Conway instead of going back to the campground. But, we were all tired and hungry which made us a little cranky.
Back at the campsite, we made hot dogs on the fire for dinner...then we hung out by the fire for the rest of the night.
August 25, 2011 - Homeward Bound
When we checked out, we also booked a week for next year :-) We absolutely love this campground and we love the quality time we get to spend together on this trip. We are building a tradition in this trip and I absolutely love it!
We made a stop in my hometown of Wolfeboro, NH. I showed Mike my Mim and Pop's home on Filterbed Road and then we ate sandwiches down at the docks at Cate Park for lunch.
After our sandwiches, we walked the shoppes downtown. This picture of Katie & I is taken in one of my favorite places in the world - the bridge in downtown Wolfeboro. I used to walk over this bridge every day on my way home from school. I used to love to look over and watch the fish. I still love to look over and watch the fish and the boats...I just love it and it meant the world to me to have Katie & Mike there with me.
I can't believe how much the town has changed. It has grown tremendously. I almost didn't know where I was at some points...lol.
I was sad that our time in New Hampshire was coming to an end, but we knew that we needed to get home. With news of a major hurricane coming our way (Irene), we knew it was time to get home and prepare for the worst.
So, until next year...we will miss you New Hampshire!!!
