OK, I have been so busy prepping for Halloween that I forgot to post about Katie's clinic visit last Thursday (10/29/09). I guess that's a good thing....it means we were busy doing "normal" things, which always makes me happy :-)
The nurses were pretty busy, running around like crazy trying to take care of everyone that was there. I guess they were getting a lot of "fever" calls and prepping for a lot of procedures, so they wanted to get Katie in and out of there as quickly as possible, which we were fine with :-)
They got Katie's port accessed and blood drawn fairly quickly. Then they administered the H1N1 flu shot which was a one inch needle into her leg. Of course she screamed bloody murder during that. She has to go back in a month for a second shot.
While we waited for the CBC results, we talked with some of the people from Sherry's House. They thanked Mike again for making balloon animals at their Halloween party.
Katie was looked over by Chris S., one of the nurse practitioners. Once her exam was done, her CBC results were back and her chemo was up from the pharmacy, so they administered the chemo and we were off. It was a pretty quick visit.
Today's clinic visit consisted of the following:
1) Port access
2) a blood draw
3) H1N1 flu shot
4) Vincristine (Chemo)
This cycle will consist of the following:
Vincristine - Day 1 (same dose as previous cycles)
Methotrexate (oral at home chemo) - Days 1, 8 & 15 (same dose as the last cycle)
6-mercapturine (oral at home chemo) - Days 1-14 (same dose as the last cycle)
Dexamethasone (oral at home steroid)- Days 1-5 (same dose as the last cycle)
Next planned clinic visit will be in three weeks, November 19, which will include another lumbar puncture. .

With all the shots she receives, I'm surprised that they we not able to give her the H1 mist.
2 of my 3 received the mist and Scarlett has to go back in 4 weeks for another misting. Much easier than a shot.
During your time in consider the game Elefun - this was one of Brett's favorites when he was a little boy!
