Friday Clinic Visit - Maintenance Round 5

Today's clinic visit went a lot smoother than the last one. We were only there for maybe 2 hours today (if that long). Thank goodness because we were just back from vacation on the Cape. We left the Cape this morning at 6:30am to be back for Katie's clinic appointment at 10am. We were all pretty exhausted. But, we made it back to the house with enough time to empty the cooler, switch cars and go.

Nothing major to report, other than Katie is doing extremely well. It was nice this past week to be on vacation from all things Leukemia. It was even nicer to watch her running around on the beach, having a blast with her cousins. As I watched her play, I couldn't help but to think about all that she has been through and to see her now looking so healthy. I am truly in awe of my little girl. It was nice to spend a week without a thought of chemo or needles, until today :-( In retrospect, probably not a great way to end a vacation. But, it is what it is and we had fun.

Today's clinic visit consisted of the following:
1) Port access
2) a blood draw
3) Vincristine (Chemo)

This cycle will consist of the following:
Vincristine - Day 1 (same dose as previous cycles)
Methotrexate (oral at home chemo) - Days 1, 8 & 15 (same dose as the last cycle)
6-mercapturine (oral at home chemo) - Days 1-14 (increased dose from the last cycle because she has gained weight!!!)
Dexamethasone (oral at home steroid)- Days 1-5 (same dose as the last cycle)

Next planned clinic visit will be in three weeks, July 16th when she will require another lumbar puncture.
