Treatment may have ended for Katie, but the battle is far from over.

Please say a prayer for all the children who continue to fight childhood cancer day after day.
Pray for their strength, resilience and healing.

Port Removal Surgery Postponed

We figured it would happen - Katie's port removal surgery was postponed due to a cough that she picked up somewhere in Florida. Even though her cough really isn't that bad anymore, they want to postpone her surgery in order to let the congestion fully clear out of her lungs before putting her under anesthesia. The anesthesiologist told us that this could cause asthma-like symptoms while she is under and they might be forced to put a breathing tube down her throat and then she would end up in the ICU. So, we all decided that the best thing to do is to postpone the surgery. There is no emergency to have the port out right away, so there is no harm in waiting until the circumstances are better. They are supposed to call us to reschedule.

Although it is a bummer that we have to wait, we would rather be safe than sorry.
