Addition Update

This phase of the project seems to be going EXTREMELY slow! We have lost A LOT of heat due to the fact that we do not have any walls in the 2 front bedrooms. Nor do we have heat in that zone, so any heat in the main part of the house is going right out the window, literally.  We have spent $1900 in oil over a month & 1/2.  We are losing WAY too much money right now and I am anxious to get the front room put back together.

We have also had some scares with all the snow on the roof. With all the recent news about roof collapses, our contractor was concerned about the amount of snow on our roof, so he decided to get up there and clear some of it off. We had about 3 feet of snow on the roof.

What we discovered later that night was that he shoveled it off of the main roof and ONTO the sunroom roof. It's just so insanely stupid that I really cannot even believe it!!

That night, Katie & I were sitting in the sunroom watching a movie and around 9:00pm, I heard some cracking in one of the corners. Needles to say, it scared me. Mike was at work, so I called him and he told us to get out of the house until he could get home and check out the situation. Katie, the dogs & I spent the next hour in the car while Mike & my dad assessed the structural integrity of the roof. Yeah, that was great. The contractor came the next day and added more support to the roof frame.



Here is the progress since the last update:

-- Windows - all are in except one replacement window going in the existing kitchen.

-- Roof frame - 90% complete - permanent trusses have been installed, but a beam still needs to be installed from one side of the house to the other in order to tie all the trusses together.

-- Siding - 90% complete - all except the back wall of the sunroom and the trim work

-- Electrical - 80% complete - Rough inspection passed. All the wires are run, now we just need outlets and switches.

-- Heating - 80% complete - most of the piping has been run, but the heaters need to be installed.

-- Insulation - 100% complete. Rough inspection passed on Wednesday and the insulation went in yesterday, which was a big milestone.

The front bedroom has been without walls for 5 weeks which is completely ridiculous if you ask me. But the plan is to do that this weekend and the contractor has informed us that he is out of money.

The FHA inspector came today, so the paperwork for the next draw will be submitted by Monday and we will have to wait for that to get processed before we will see a check.  It has taken about 2 weeks for each draw. So, GREAT...our contractor is just going to sit on his "you know what" for 2 weeks while we are living in complete chaos??? UGH! This whole process is SO frustrating.

They have attempted to remove the dumpster multiple times with no luck due to the amount of snow. The excavator came today to try and remove some of the snow in hopes of getting the dumpster out.  There are 2 HUGE piles of trash IN the addition and now he is just throwing it out into the front yard. So, I am sure the yard is going to be a COMPLETE mess in the springtime.

Hallway framing - you are looking at Katie's old bedroom - the pink wall is the wall in between her room and the bathroom. That will now be a hallway. On the right side of this picture, you can see the framing for our laundry closet that will be in the new hallway. On the left, you can see the framing for the playroom closet.  I am standing in front of the doorway for the front room (Katie's old playroom, which will actually be her new playroom too :-).

I hope I have some updated pictures by the end of the weekend with drywall on the walls!!!
