Well, I took the pictures because this is a part of Kaitlyn's survivor story. These are the treatments that are saving her life, so quite possibly the biggest part of her story. I have felt that I needed to document this for quite some time now, but have never been able to bring myself to take pictures while my daughter was in pain and needed me. So why now? Why this time?
That brings me to question #2. As harsh as these photos may seem, it is even harder to be in that room and watch it time after time, hearing your child scream in pain and yelling ..."Why are you hurting me" or "Don't do this to me, PLEASE!". It is heartbreaking to know that this is the best thing for her, but not know how to explain to her why she has to endure such things.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and I felt it was important to bring awareness to what these kids have to endure in order to survive. They tell us that Kaitlyn has a "good cancer" because there is an 85% cure rate with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. As far as I am concerned, there is nothing good about any of it. No child should have to go through this much trauma at such an early age.
As many of you know by now, Mike, Kaitlyn & I are walking in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk on October 25th. I have to hope that the money we raise will help to modify these treatment protocols so that they can have the same (or better) cure rate without putting these kids through so much pain in the process. Please help to support our cause. Even if you can only spare $5 or $10 dollars, every little bit helps.

Katie's survivor story has been very educational to date. These pictures add the reality of what she endures each visit. Reading your story is heartbreaking, seeing the pictures is unimaginable. All the more reason that people need to get out there on October 25th and walk for the cure of this disease so that no other child will have to go through this and so that Katie will be cured and be able to do all the things that little girls do!
Your blog is her survivor story. Please continue to tell her story! This is one that needs to be told. Please continue to post pictures and please continue to post what it is like for the parents and the families! In this world we hear the terms Cancer and Leukemia and other life threatening disease terms, we hear what treatment options are, but never get to see what treatment really looks like. Katie IS VERY BRAVE! Her story needs to be told!
