Disney Bucks!

This week, we started bribing Kaitlyn with "Disney Bucks". I am not sure if this is the right thing to do or not because I always said I wouldn't pay my kids to do the right thing. But, I feel like she needs a little extra incentive in the potty training area. For the most part, she does a pretty good job going to the potty when she needs to, but she still needs me to remind her to go before it becomes an emergency. She also has a really hard time controlling both her mood and her bladder when she is on the 5 day cycle of steroids.

Here is how the "Disney Bucks" work. If she goes all day without an accident and is generally "good" (listens to mom & dad, cooperates, etc...) then she earns one Disney Dollar. She understands that she is earning money to spend in Disney on anything that she wants and she is very excited about this concept. There are also some times when we will offer extra "Disney Bucks"...Clinic visits (port access), ER visits and the other day, she spelled her name on her own when she was asked, so she got TWO "Disney Dollars" that night.

This is the currency that I have so far...

Other than the obvious reasons (no accidents, a child that listens & cooperates, etc.) , this works to our advantage in a few ways...
1) She gets an instant daily reward in the "Disney Bucks". She doesn't care that it is paper..it's fun and cute!
2) This is money that we will probably spend on her anyway in Disney, so why not use it to our advantage :-)
3) This teaches her lessons about math and money. The math lesson is counting and adding. The money lesson now is earning and saving. The money lesson later will be how to make the best decisions on spending that money and realizing that she can't have it all, so she will have to decide what she wants most.

Today, we decorated a shoe box for her to store her "Disney Bucks" in and I am now referred to as "the banker"...lol.

So far, she has not missed one day. She tells us "today, I am working very hard for my Disney Dollar" and SHE IS! We have gone almost a whole week without any accidents. I am very impressed with her determination! However, I think we are going to be very broke after Disney...lol.
