On the upside, we have heard from the "Wish People" (Make a Wish) and they are requesting our final travel dates for Katie's Make a Wish trip. This has prompted us to ask questions about what the "end of treatment" looks like. So far we have learned that an additional lumbar puncture and bone marrow will be necessary to clear her before they take her port out. Then once those results come back clean, they will schedule a surgery to have her port taken out. As for what date any of this will take place, Dr. Keuker's official answer today, "anywhere between October 2nd and 23rd". This is not helpful information...lol. I am going to talk with him some more at Katie's next clinic visit (Feb 11th) and see if I can get a more definitive answer. My notes indicate that October 2nd will be two years of treatment from the end of induction therapy, which should be the "drop dead" date. Meaning that no matter what medication she is on, no matter where she is in the cycle, her treatment is just over on that date. What happened to that???
To some people, October may seem like a long way off, but for Katie (and us), it is the difference between 12 or 13 more treatment visits. I'm not one to wish away time, but this date cannot come soon enough...come on October!!!
8 MONTHS AND COUNTING!!!!
