This morning at 3am, Kaitlyn had a severe allergic reaction to her antibiotics. It started with a cough and then quickly progressed to a closing of her throat. She was acting like she wanted to vomit, but in fact she couldn't breath. The doctors were already in the room when her throat was closing and they called for IV Benadryl, IV Pepcid, IV Decadron (steroid) and a racemic EPI inhalation treatment. As you can imagine, this was extremely scary to watch, especially because it didn't seem like the doctors were moving quick enough for the situation. It took everything in me not to start screaming "DON'T JUST STAND THERE, DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!" But, once she received the IV drugs, her breathing started to return to normal almost immediately. About a 1/2 hour later, they did administer an additional Albuterol inhalation treatment because she had a lingering wheeze in her lungs. Since this happened, we have had someone in our room every 15-20 minutes checking on her. So, it has been another sleepless night here at the hospital and we are all completely exhausted. Ah, who needs sleep anyway!
