Today was a long day. Our day started today at 5:30am to the tune of, "I want Funyuns!" It didn't go over very well when we told Kaitlyn that she couldn't eat. Since she was having anesthesia today for her lumbar puncture and bone marrow aspirate, she couldn't eat after midnight. So, after listening to "I want Funyuns!" for 1/2 hour, we decided to go for a ride in the car and hope that the chant would subside. And it did. Until we got home an hour later when it started all over again. This chant lasted until about 11:30am (6 hours later) when her procedures were over and she could eat...sigh....
Other than that, her procedures went well. We won't know the results from the bone marrow test until the weekend. Her doctor basically said that he will have the results tomorrow, but won't call if she IS in remission. You would think that would be a phone call that he would want to make! He said the only reason he would call would be to tell us of a change with her planned hospital stay starting Sunday. BUT, he also said that the chances that she wouldn't be in remission are less than 1%. So, we WILL be checking into the hospital Sunday night for her next phase of treatment (Consolidation) and can expect to be there most of the week. If Kaitlyn stays in remission and all goes as expected, this is the only planned hospital stay in her treatment protocol.
Her protocol calls for 2 more years of treatment. If there are no relapses, her treatment end date will be 10/02/2010. I don't want to wish away time, but SAVE THE DATE - there will be a party!
